Former first lady Michelle Obama on Thursday called for social media companies to “permanently ban” President Donald Trump from their websites, suggesting he had used the platforms to “fuel insurrection.”

In a two-page Twitter post, Obama excoriated Trump without mentioning him by name and condemned all of those who voted for him.

“Now is the time for those who voted for this president to see the reality of what they’ve supported – and publicly and forcefully rebuke him and the actions of that mob,” she wrote. “Now is the time for Silicon Valley companies to stop enabling this monstrous behavior – and go even further than they have already by permanently banning this man from their platforms and putting in place policies to prevent their technology from being used by the nation’s leaders to fuel insurrection.”

Several social media companies locked Trump’s account on Wednesday.

Obama’s post contrasted Wednesday’s “riot” in Washington and the Capitol to “this summer’s peaceful protests.”

She echoed a theme expressed in several opinion pieces and on social media that police treated the Washington protestors differently than those during the summer demonstrations supporting Black Lives Matter because of the race of those involved.

“But there’s one question I just can’t shake: What if these rioters looked like the folks who go to Ebenezer Baptist Church every Sunday? What would have been different?” she wrote.

While implying that the Washington protesters were treated more gently than the BLM protesters, Obama did not mention or reference the 35-year-old white woman, 14-year U.S. Air Force veteran Ashli Babbit – reportedly unarmed – who was shot and killed by Capitol Police.
