The Hon. Justice Charles Quin QC admitted Krista-Lynn Wight to the bar as an attorney-at-law in the Grand Court on 25 April, before a large audience of Ms Wight’s family, friends and colleagues (resulting in a last minute move to a larger courtroom in order to accommodate everyone).

A beneficiary of the Maples and Calder and MaplesFS scholarship program, Ms Wight is a graduate of The College of Law of England and Wales, London, where she completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course. Upon her successful completion of the course she was granted an LL.B with honours.

Prior to her legal studies, she attended the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA, obtaining a B.A. in Business Administration. During her time at Notre Dame, she was named to the Dean’s List and was accepted into their London semester abroad programme.

Ms Wight first joined Maples and Calder as a summer student in 2008 and was subsequently articled to the Firm’s Global Managing Partner, Henry Smith.

During her training with the law firm, Ms Wight has gained experience in the funds, finance, trusts and corporate departments as well as in the litigation group, where she will take up her new role as an Associate Attorney-at-Law.

“I would like to thank Maples and Calder, who have supported me throughout my education with scholarships, summer placements and finally with the opportunity to complete my articles with them,” said Ms Wight. “The quality of the training, the patient guidance and the support that I received from all of the staff, associates and partners that I have worked with has been invaluable. I truly appreciate the time, effort and energy expended on behalf of my training and I am extremely proud and grateful to be able to consider most of the Maples family not only as my colleagues but also as my friends.”

“Krista is a hard worker, excellent scholar and a pleasure to work with,” said Aristos Galatopoulos, global head of the Firm’s litigation and insolvency practices. “She approaches every project with enthusiasm and a smile. Krista exhibits all of the qualities that we look for in a new attorney and we wish her a long and happy career at Maples and Calder.”

Ms Wight is a member of the Caymanian Bar Association, Cayman Islands Law Society and National Trust for the Cayman Islands.
