UPDATE: Man dragged by car following crash – Man critical, another in custody

An 18-year-old man has been charged and is due in court in connection with an incident on Sunday, 3 February, where another man was dragged several hundred yards by a car following a road crash in Shedden Rod, George Town.

The man has been charged with inflicting GBH, reckless and negligent act, dangerous driving, leaving the scene of an accident and damage to property.

It is anticipated that he will appear in court this morning, Tuesday 5 February 2013.

The victim remains in a critical condition.

A man is in critical condition, and another is in police custody, after a crash resulted in an altercation and a man then being dragged several hundred yards while clinging onto a car door.

About 12.30am on Sunday 3 February, a two car crash took place on Shedden Road near Elizabethan Square involving a black Honda Accord and a white Ford Taurus. No-one was injured in the crash and an altercation took place between the two drivers. As the Accord started to drive off from the scene, the driver of the Taurus grabbed onto the door of the Accord. The man held onto the door until the Accord subsequently crashed near to the Texaco gas station further along Sheddon Road. The driver and passenger from the Accord ran off from the scene.

The driver of the Taurus sustained serious injuries and was conveyed to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town. He has since been airlifted to the United States for treatment. His condition is described as critical. The injured man is 24 years of age.

The driver of the Accord, an 18-year-old man, was later arrested on suspicion of GBH, dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
