From World netball

World Netball (WN) would like to congratulate Lucille Seymour, MBE, BEM, and JP, who has recently been honoured for her ‘Service to Community and the greater Cayman Islands’ by the University College of the Cayman Islands.
The retired President of the Cayman Islands Netball Association (CINA) will receive the honorary doctorate at a graduation ceremony next month.
Seymour was one of the founders of the Cayman Islands Netball Association (CINA); the first nonprofit sports organisation in the Cayman Islands in 1977.
She then went on to be President of CINA from 1983 until July 2024, when she stepped down.
Speaking on the honour, Seymour said: “This recognition is a profound privilege, and I am truly honoured to accept it.
“I wish to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the people of the Cayman Islands, whose unwavering support and contributions have been instrumental in my journey.
“I am especially grateful for the opportunities I have had to serve in the fields of sports, education, politics, and advocacy for the well-being of women, youth, and older persons, as well as in community development and cultural initiatives.”
Seymour also received a WN Service Award in 2017, recognising her key involvement in the game for over 60 years at all levels, from local to regional and international, and in a variety of different roles at high school, college, and university as a young player, coach, and administrator.
More recently, she was made a lifetime Member of the CINA’s Executive Committee and was awarded the ‘Dr. J. Hugh Cummings Memorial Award for Institutional Service at the International College of the Cayman Islands (ICCI) 2025 Graduation Awards Ceremony.
