Law firm files 2nd major embryo loss case in same week, focus is on thousands of egg/embryos at San Francisco fertility clinic

Similar Cases Filed Monday by Peiffer Rosca Wolf Abdullah Carr & Kane (PRW) in Cleveland

WHO:

Just days after filing a smiliar case involving the University Hospitals (UH) Ahuja Medical Center in Cleveland, OH, the law firm Peiffer Rosca Wolf Abdullah Carr & Kane (PRW) today filed a new class action lawsuit in the wake of the potential destruction of thousands of eggs and embryos by a fertility center in San Francisco. Attorneys Adam Wolf and Tracey Cowan will speak on behalf of the couple filing the suit today. The law firm has offices in San Francisco, Cleveland, New York, Los Angeles, Missouri, and New Orleans. In-person interviews with Wolf and Cowan will be available in San Francisco.

WHAT:

Earlier this week, Pacific Fertility Center, of San Francisco, announced that a leak in the seal of a tissue storage tank had resulted in the possible destruction of thousands of eggs and embryos held for hundreds of couples and individuals. The eggs and embryos were being stored for in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures.  On Monday (March 12th), PRW filed a class action lawsuit against University Hospitals (UH) Ahuja Medical Center, after it, too, announced the potential destruction of up to 2,000 eggs and embryos held in an on-site storage tank at the UH Fertility Center.

PRW is the preeminent national firm for the handling of cases involving eggs/embryos damaged or lost during the storage or transfer process. Among the multiple litigation proceedings of this sort being handled by PRW, one is being heard this week in Orange County in California.

WHY:

Couples that entrust eggs/embryos for storage do so often after having exhausted other avenues to have a child.  In some cases, individuals and couples store eggs at an early age in anticipation of starting a family later in life.  In still other cases, families with modest means will go deeply into debt in order to finance IVF procedures (which often must be repeated) and to pay for short- or long-term egg/embryo storage.  For many older individuals and couples, a stored egg or embryo may be their only hope for giving birth with lower risks of serious conditions.
