KPMG helps George Town Primary School purchase a new playground

KPMG in the Cayman Islands has donated CI$5,000 towards helping the George

Town Primary School, purchase a playground and to assist with their Sport programme.

Since Hurricane Ivan, the students have found areas around the school to play because of the lack of a playground. The PTA at George Town Primary have reached out to a number of organisations in order to raise funds towards providing their children with the necessary need of a playground for an active, safe and fun childhood.

Parents will be happy to know their children are in a safe area during break time and afterschool once the playground is complete. The fundraising is still in progress as the school continues to seek sponsorship to reach their necessary monetary goal. Cheyenna Stewart, GTPS Fundraising Coordinator and parent stated “George Town Primary PTA, Parents and Staff are very fortunate to have a company like KPMG in the community. With their donation we are that much closer to providing a playground, for the children at the start of the new school year. Not only did they provide funds, but offered to assist with mentoring and volunteering with the children in our afterschool programme is priceless. Thank you KPMG for supporting our children.”

Although a playground is usually utilised for playtime, the PTA committee desires to purchase one which includes a mini amphitheatre for the children to perform and a fun place to host their reading classes. Part of the proceeds will also go towards their Sports programme to ensure their students have the same opportunity to excel in athletic sports as their peers in other schools.

When approached with this initiative, Anthony Cowell, Partner at KPMG, expressed his interest to get involved. “This is a great project that will benefit the children in more than one way. With the opportunity to help a long standing school in Grand Cayman provide their children with the essentials to learn and play is important. We appreciate the chance to assist the children and staff of George Town Primary with their targeted goals.” he explained.
