‘Killing Jesus’ is Bill O’Reilly’s next book, Exploring Life, Death of Christ

bill-oreillyBy Michael Mullins

Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly, author of bestsellers on the assassinations of presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy, says his next literary endeavor will delve into the execution of Jesus Christ.

Titled “Killing Jesus,” the book will recount the life and times of Jesus Christ and examine both the political and historical aspects that defined his brief existence and the Christian legacy he left behind.

“Jesus Christ has not walked among us physically for more than 2,000 years, yet his presence today is felt the world over and his spirit is worshiped by more than 2.2 billion people,” O’Reilly said in a statement released by his publisher, Henry Holt and Co. “His teachings, his legacy, his life as a flesh-and-blood man, and his death created the world in which we live.”

O’Reilly announced the book at the conclusion of his Wednesday night show on Fox News.

“We’ve uncovered some interesting things about the execution of Jesus of Nazareth and how it all ties into Roman power,” the practicing Roman Catholic told his viewers. “I think you’re going to like it.”

Like his previous books, “Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot” and “Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination That Changed America Forever,” the outspoken cable-news host will partner up with researcher and co-author Martin Dugard.

In an interview with USA Today last October, O’Reilly, a former high-school history teacher, said he writes “history that’s fun to read” in a “populist way. No pinheaded stuff.” The anchor added that most of the research is done by Dugard while he handles the writing.

Since their release, “Killing Kennedy” and “Killing Lincoln” have consistently remained on The New York Times Best Sellers List for hardcover nonfiction. “Killing Kennedy” is currently No. 3 and has spent 19 weeks on the list. “Killing Lincoln” currently holds the No. 7 spot and has been on the list for 72 weeks.

“Killing Lincoln” was adapted as a TV special on the National Geographic Channel and was narrated by actor Tom Hanks. The special, which aired last Sunday, set a viewership record for the network with 3.4 million people tuning in to watch the program.

“Killing Jesus” is scheduled to be released on Sept. 24 with a list price of $28.
