Kemar Hyman, London qualifying reward

On May 10th, 2012 the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee (CIOC) presented recent Olympic qualifier Kemar Hyman with a check for $4000.00.  Hyman is the fifth Caymanian to qualify for the 2012 London Summer Olympics and this will be his first ever appearance at an Olympic Games.  He joins fellow track athletes Cydonie Mothersill and Ronald Forbes and swimming brothers Shaune and Brett Fraser for the Games in July.

Running at the Florida Relays for Florida State University, Hyman qualified in the 100m Dash with a time of 10.14 seconds only to better his time and achieve a new National Record with a time of 10.07 seconds just weeks later, winning the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in college athletics.

While Hyman was on island for the Cayman Invitational held earlier this month, Vice President Lori Powell and Fundraising Chairperson Betty Baraud took the opportunity to award him with a cheque at the CIOC office.

The CIOC ensures that all funds raised go directly to the athletes.  This reward was comprised solely of donations and sponsorships through fundraising events of the Cayman Islands Fundraising Committee (CIOFC), headed by dedicated Chairperson Betty Baraud.  These contributions are used to help with training, competition preparation, living expenses and treatment, such as physiotherapy.

The CIOC and CIOFC would like to thank all of their sponsors and those who have contributed in any way to ensuring the success of the Committee and its athletes.  It is with this continued support that the CIOC is able to fund our athletes and contribute to such ambassadors of the Cayman Islands.

The CIOFC will be hosting a “Luncheon at Windsor Castle” fundraiser on June 2nd at Abacus in Camana Bay between 12:00pm and 3:00pm.  There are limited tickets left for purchase and we encourage you to support our National Athletes by attending this fun filled event – fashion show, raffle and auction of some amazing items!  If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, making a donation or volunteering with the CIOC, feel free to contact the office at [email protected].
