Former prisoner shot dead while trying to kill ex-girlfriend in Trinidad

EP-160119493By Trinidad Express From St Lucia News

A 31-year-old man who was released from prison on Sunday was shot dead while he was threatening to stab his ex-girlfriend to death at her home, on Monday night.

He was among four people killed in South and Central Trinidad between Monday night and Tuesday morning, taking the number of murders for the year to 29, in less than three weeks.

Twenty-two people were killed for the corresponding period last year.

Jeremy Hernandez, who was released from prison on Sunday, was shot in the head by gunmen who followed him to the woman’s home, located in bushes off a dirt track, off Palmyra Main Road, near Princes Town.

His ex-girlfriend, 19-year-old Tia James, was shot twice in the back as she tried to escape. James remains in stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital.
