R&Q completes novation from Cayman Captive

Randall & Quilter Investment Holdings has completed the novation of liabilities for policy years 2003 to 2011 from Westland Insurance Company, a captive domiciled in the Cayman Islands.
The novation from Westland Insurance Company was to R&Q Quest, an R&Q-owned segregated account company in Bermuda.
The Cayman captive provided workers’ compensation, general liability, auto liability and auto physical damage cover to its members through reinsurance starting 1 September 2003 and fronted by Travelers Indemnity Company.
Ken Randall, chairman and CEO of R&Q, said: “We are pleased to complete another novation, which continues to demonstrate our market leading position in providing captive exit solutions. It is one of several recent transactions that we have executed in Cayman, one of the world’s premier captive domiciles.”
R&Q completed a similar novation with Golden Rule in December last year.

R&Q completes novation

Randall & Quilter (R&Q) has announced the novation of liabilities for the policy years 2003-2011 from Cayman Islands-based captive Westland Insurance Company.
Westland provided workers’ compensation, general liability, auto liability and physical damage coverage to its members through reinsurance, beginning 1 September 2003. The policies were fronted by Travelers.
Ken Randall, chairman and CEO of R&Q, noted that the novation was one of several recent transactions the company has executed in the Cayman Islands.

Cayman listings grow in Taiwan IPO market

Demand is increasing for Cayman listing vehicles for initial public offerings (IPOs) on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), according to law firm Ogier.
The number of foreign companies listed on TWSE has grown steadily and now accounts for approximately 8 percent of its listings, and it now has the third largest proportion of foreign listings among Asian markets, trailing only Hong Kong and Singapore.
Ogier has acted on 28 listings on the TWSE, representing around a third of all foreign listings.
In the past two years, it has acted as issuer’s Cayman counsel on more than half of all Taiwan IPOs.
The firm also acted as Cayman Islands counsel to the underwriters on a large number of listings representing many of the leading underwriters in the market.
Nathan Powell, Ogier partner, said: “The Taiwan Stock Exchange has enjoyed considerable success in attracting overseas firms to raise capital in Taiwan over the past few years. MRCU Aerial Operations
The Mosquito Research and Control Unit (MRCU) will be conducting seasonal aerial operations over mosquito breeding swamps in the Sister Islands and Grand Cayman throughout the forthcoming week (Friday, 27 May to Friday, 03 June).
Operations will involve low-level flights during the mornings and late afternoons. MRCU aircraft will drop pellets designed to stop the swamp mosquito larvae developing in water, which will be activated when the rainy season begins. Swamp mosquitoes are not a public health threat, but bite, spread heartworm in dogs and are a nuisance throughout the islands.

Cayman Islands Public Celebration for Queen’s Birthday
The public is invited to attend official celebrations of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday on Saturday 11 June 2016.
A parade by the uniformed services begins at 9:30am, and will be followed by a brief ceremony at the Legislative Assembly, recognising recipients of Queen’s Honours.
A garden party on the lawn of Government House will immediately follow the ceremony (10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.) A dress code of semi-formal day dress will be enforced. Hats are optional.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister to Discuss International Terrorism and Caribbean Preparedness

Recent international events have posed considerable questions regarding global insecurity.
The multiple manifestations of this encompass radical and extreme religious world views, environmental degradation, food insecurity and the movement of peoples. Of particular urgency is global terrorism.
While it is clear that the Caribbean is not impervious to the reality of international terrorism, it can be argued that the peoples of the region do not know enough of how prepared their countries are.
In the latest installment of the UCCI Distinguished Lecture Series, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines explains the nature of this reality, the extent to which Caribbean countries are affected, or might be, and their levels of preparedness. As an important player in CARICOM, the Prime Minister will outline regional plans to counter global terrorism.
Large groups are encouraged to reserve seats as soon as possible as space is limited.
High school students (including Dual Enrollment applicants) must not await their external exam results (e.g. CXC, IGCSE, etc.) to submit their online applicaiton. Exam results can be submitted as soon as they become available.
