I took our community’s names to New York!

By Herrana Addisu, From Freedom United

We asked and our community stepped up! We’ve been calling on you this past month to strengthen demands for action to end forced child marriage and last week our community’s names were finally delivered. We powered our partner Girls Not Brides[1] at the United Nations in New York with 94,215 names calling for action from world leaders.

Heads of Government met at the UN Sustainable Goals Summit
to discuss their commitments for the first time since 2015. We took this opportunity to ensure SDG 5.3, the goal ending forced child marriage, was not forgotten.

Thanks to our community we were able to present a strong global call for action to end child marriage to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the Governor of Edo State, Nigeria! Working in partnerships means that we can make sure your voice is heard – only with our loud collective voice are we able to call on world leaders to address forced child marriage and commit to end it.
