How Black Friday is good for your health

By Lynn Allison  From Newsmaxf

Thanksgiving brings the usual excitement of family gatherings, feasting on turkey, and of course, giving thanks. But for many folks — those avid shoppers and deal seekers — the most important part of the holiday season is Black Friday, the big day for bargain hunters.“For the person who’s been doing this for decades, this is as much of their Thanksgiving tradition as having turkey,” researcher Jane Boyd Thomas told The Atlantic.

Claremont University researchers gave female shoppers coupons, and noticed that their levels of oxytocin soared. Because this hormone is linked to love and trust, scientists believe this feeling is why we love coupons so much.

With Black Friday, according to Shape magazine, there’s also the sense of competition and the possibility of fighting over goods that make people feel playful and excited. And for many, the day after Thanksgiving is a holiday in and of itself.

If you are one of those anxiously awaiting Black Friday and get high just thinking about shopping in packed malls and seeing how much money you can save on holiday gifts, here are five ways you can capitalize on your venture.

  1. Prioritize. There is no way to get all the deals that you want so make a list of your favorites, and scout out who has the best deals beforehand. Focus on the most expensive and largest items.
  2. Let your smartphone find the best deals. Yes, there is an app for that. According to NerdWallet, the best free apps for Black Friday include ShopSavvy, Price Cruncher, and Santa’s Bag
  3. Double-check that your credit card is ready. You don’t want to hear that your credit card has been declined after waiting for hours to get that deal. If needed, set up a budget for yourself so you don’t over extend your credit.
  4. Read the return policies. That bargain may be defective or just not what you expected, so be sure to read the retailer’s return policy before you buy.
  5. Bring a buddy. Everything is better with a friend, so enlist the support of a couple of like-minded super shoppers to help navigate the lines. Many times, you can divide and conquer, each choosing a different department to grab all the items you need in half the time.

So set your alarm clock, grab a cup of coffee, and get ready to enjoy your Black Friday adventure knowing that you not only will save money, but also feel better too.
