Guyana: UG bomb threat accused remanded to jail

By Wonita Stephens From Guyana Guardian

Sheneza Jafarally, the 25-year-old UG student and Sixth Street, Cummings Lodge Resident who allegedly made bomb threats to disturb classes at the University of Guyana, has been remanded to prison.

The young woman’s bail application was denied earlier today, when she made her first appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, who committed her to jail, and further transferred the case to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

Ms Jafarally, also called Diane or Deejay was arrested, after investigators traced all of the bomb threats calls to telecommunications equipment that is allegedly owned and operated by her.

Her alleged actions have since sparked discontent among some since she is said to be the niece of a top member of the opposition PPP/C in Berbice.

The PPP official has since distanced himself and the party from the young woman, and has called for the law to deal with her accordingly.

She is expected to make her next court appearance at Sparendaam next Monday – 18 February.
