Former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson has settled her sexual harassment lawsuit against ex-boss Roger Ailes for about $20 million, Vanity Fair reported Tuesday morning.

Fox confirmed it had settled with Carlson, but did not disclose the terms.

In an apparent rebuke to its ousted CEO, who has emphatically denied wrongdoing, Fox offered an apology to Carlson:

“21st Century Fox is pleased to announce that it has settled Gretchen Carlson’s lawsuit. During her tenure at Fox News, Gretchen exhibited the highest standards of journalism and professionalism. She developed a loyal audience and was a daily source of information for many Americans. We are proud that she was part of the Fox News team,” the company said in a statement. “We sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect and dignity that she and all of our colleagues deserve.”

The settlement was hammered out by Fox News on behalf of Ailes, three people familiar with the pact tell the magazine.

“The Murdochs appear intent on putting the Ailes saga behind them as they move into the last stretches of an election and an attempt to corral crucial anchors, such as Megyn Kelly, to re-sign with the network,” Vanity Fair’s Sarah Ellison writes.

“To reinforce their seriousness about creating a new culture in a post-Ailes world, the company is expected to offer Carlson a public apology as part of the settlement,” the report said shortly before the parent company issued its statement

Ellison also reports that the company has “reached settlement agreements” with two other women.

Carlson’s suit resulted in the sudden ouster of Ailes, who is now said to be serving as an adviser to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
