Grand Cayman: FURTHER UPDATE: Diversion West Bay Road [one lane now open]. Temporarily in Vicinity of Captain’s Bakery Restaurant

Of the persons taken to the hospital in connection with the accident, all have been released except for a woman, age 35, who is undergoing treatment for injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Motorists headed towards West Bay are advised that the North bound lane is now opened to vehicular traffic .

Motorists headed towards GT are advised that they can now proceed along West Bay Road to GT.

Motorists are however advised to proceed with caution as the roadway in the vicinity of the Captain’s Bakery is still partially blocked and emergency personnel are still on scene.

The accident has resulted in delays on West Bay Road, Eastern Avenue, and along Esterly Tibbetts Highway. Police are monitoring this situation and are asking the public to exercise patience at this time.

The West Bay road in the vicinity of the Captain’s Bakery to Treasure Island is still blocked.

Motorists headed towards West Bay should use the Esterly Tibbetts Highway through to the Galleria loop.

Motorists coming from West Bay towards George Town are being diverted and should proceed through Lawrence Blvd towards Esterly Tibbetts Highway.

Motorists are ask to proceed with caution.

Wednesday 23 March 2016. 5:30 am.

West Bay Road is closed by the police in the vicinity of the Captain’s Restaurant in order to conduct investigation at the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident.

Motorists should use an alternative route until the road is reopened.

The RCIPS apologizes for any inconvenience.

About 01:33AM on 23-MAR-16 police and emergency services responded to a serious motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of the Captain’s Bakery on West Bay Road.

It appears that three vehicles are involved in the accident and 4 persons were injured and transported via ambulance to the GTH. Police and fire units are on still on the scene and West Bay Road is closed in order to facilitate the investigation.

The state of the injured persons are not known at this time; but, further releases will be forthcoming as information become available.
