Government House Gets Silver Thatch

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, and Mrs. Beatrice Taylor plant a Silver Thatch Palm tree watched by family pet Pipacs, a year-old Hungarian Vizsla, in the gardens at Government House on World Environment Day

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, and Mrs. Beatrice Taylor planted the Cayman National Tree at Government House on World Environment Day (Tuesday, 5 June 2012) as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The young Silver Thatch Palm tree now has pride of place amidst the fruiting trees and flowering shrubs in the lush garden.

The Governor said, “We were just delighted to contribute to World Environment Day by planting a local tree. We look forward to seeing it grow and thrive in the garden at Government House.”

A total of 600 trees are to be planted across the Cayman Islands to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year.
