Cayman Islands Governor’s First Reception at Government House

GRAND CAYMAN, (GIS) – His Excellency the Governor Mr. Anwar Choudhury and his family hosted their first reception at Government House last night (Tuesday, 27 March 2018).

The soiree for around 150 people drew guests from a cross-section of the business community. Other attendees included guests from the local voluntary sector, members of the judiciary, government officials and MLAs who met the 13th Governor and his young family.

They were welcomed on arrival by Mr. Choudhury, his wife Momina, their two eldest daughters and Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson. Guests mixed and mingled to the sound of Earl La Pierre on steel pan.

Effusive in his praise of the warm welcome they had received during their first 48 hours in Grand Cayman, the Governor gave a brief speech. Mr. Choudhury once more reaffirmed his commitment to helping forge stronger ties with the U.K. and set out the priorities for his term, which include strengthening security, bolstering trade and enhancing cultural links.

Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin also gave remarks in which he welcomed the Governor and his family to the Cayman Islands and said he looked forward to a close and fruitful working relationship over the coming years.
