Cultural Workshop: Jewellery

Camana Bay is partnering with local artists to offer a series of workshops designed to promote Caymanian culture and heritage. Children ages 7-10 are invited to join us for a traditional jewellery making workshop, just in time for Valentine’s Day! This is a free event and space is limited. Camana Bay Aquatic Club 2nd Annual Open Water Swim Series

Join CBAC for a three-part series of family-friendly open water events. The events are open to swimmers of all ages and abilities and are a great way to learn a vital life skill, get wet and have fun! Little ones will enjoy a 200m Lollipop Dash, designed for swimmers 10 and under who are new to open water swimming, while more experienced swimmers can take part in the Sea Swim. Not ready to swim but still want to join in the fun? Water Walk participants will walk the full race distance in water at waist height. Each week, the swim and walk will increase in distance by 200m, starting at a breezy 400m and building up to the final 800m challenge. There will be random prizes and post-race refreshments on Public Beach. Registration is CI$30 for a Series Package (all three races), CI$90 for a Family Series Package (2 adults and 2 children, includes all races) or CI$15 per individual race. All swimmers will receive a CBAC swim cap, and those who sign up for the Series or Family Package will each receive a CBAC Open Water Series T-shirt. The Bookends Club

Join The Bookends Club when they meet to review their latest pick In the Sea There Are Crocodiles by Fabio Geda. This moving true story follows ten-year-old Enaiatollah Akbari as he journeys alone from Afghanistan to Italy after his village falls prey to the Taliban. Come share your insights and impressions in an open discussion. New members are always welcome. The Bookends Club is free to join and their meetings, held on the second Wednesday of the month from 7-8:30pm, are open to the public. This month, The Bookends Club will gather a day early owing to the Ash Wednesday public holiday.

Howard Hamilton & Adam McIntyre Book Signing

Join defence lawyer extraordinaire Howard Hamilton Q.C. and veteran correctional officer Adam McIntrye for the joint launch of their books, Born to Defend and Understanding the Criminal. Howard takes us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the court system while McIntyre gives us an inside look into the minds of the criminals themselves. Rotary Club Bed Race to Eradicate Polio

Don your pyjamas and get into bed for a great cause at Rotary in the Cayman Islands’ annual Bed Race to Eradicate Polio! Registration is CI$200 per team and includes a pre-race parade, all races and after party on Market Street. All racing teams must consist of one rider, four runners/pushers and one alternate. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed Bed Design, Most Outrageous Bed and The Broken Spring Award and net proceeds will benefit Rotary International’s Polio Eradication programme “PolioPlus.” The deadline for

Drum Circle

Professional drummers Randy Chollette, Damion Thaxter and Eden Hurlston of the musical group I AM PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE bring the Town Centre to life with a jam session featuring African, Cuban and Caymanian rhythms. The group was formed to promote brotherhood, unity and cultural development through the integration of music. Members of the public are invited to join in with their own instruments and will be given pointers throughout the session. So bring your instrument if you’d like to jam, bring your voice if you want to sing, or simply listen and enjoy an evening of rhythm and beats!

Join some of Cayman’s most talented poets and performers who share their work during an open mic night of poetry and readings. Come share your own work or listen to others. Floetry’s mix of poetry and music provides a unique opportunity for Cayman’s community of writers and readers to share their artistic and cultural experiences. It’s the perfect place to express yourself. Floetry takes place every third Wednesday of the month and is free and open to the public.

Cayman Islands Humane Society 22nd Annual Dog Show

Watch Cayman’s finest four-legged friends strut their stuff at the Cayman Islands Humane Society’s 22nd Annual Dog Show! This year, the eagerly awaited event for Cayman’s canine community finds a new home on The Festival Green at Camana Bay. The event is free to attend, while the show is open to dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and pedigrees to compete across a number of categories including Most Personality, Best Rescued, Best Trick, Cayman Dogs and more. The Walking Workout

Jumpstart your everyday fitness routine and support the Lion’s Club of Tropical Gardens with a Walking Workout from Master Certified and Conditioning Therapist, Dottie Rau. The Walking Workout is a thought- provoking approach to exercise that incorporates walking and upper body strength-building into a gentle, yet effective workout. Walk forwards, backwards and sideways then squat, lunge, twist and jump, as you challenge body balance and coordination. Co-owner/Chef Cindy Hutson, co-owner Delius Shirley and Executive Chef Sara Mair invite you for a Full Moon “Caja China” Pig Roast under the stars. The fun begins right when you ditch your shoes and dig your toes in to the sand on The Island in the Camana Bay Harbour. Sip mojitos and savour Cuban-inspired bocaditos (small bites). Then join fellow diners for a family-style all-you-can-eat Latin feast of roasted pig, fresh local fish, market vegetables, black beans and rice and other hearty dishes.
