Events celebrate seniors
On Thursday, 3 October 2013, activities for Older Persons’ Month continued with a luncheon for West Bay seniors, followed by a tea party at the Governor’s House on Friday, 4 October.
Over 100 older persons attended the luncheon at the John Gray Memorial United Church. The event included various musical performances. Minister of Education, Employment & Gender Affairs, Hon Tara Rivers, was also present.
The following day, approximately 80 persons from across the Islands gathered for tea at the Governor’s House, where they enjoyed a lively afternoon filled with entertainment by various local acts. Aunt Sookie also made a special appearance.
In keeping with this year’s theme, Listening to Our Older Persons, the month-long celebration seeks to recognize the contributions that seniors have made and continue to make in the community.
