Energising after-school activities

The week starting Monday, 9 January 2012, GIS Spotlight revisits children engaging in wholesome activities, reviews rehabilitation and re-scans the night sky.

First, we transport you to energising after-school activities for children featuring sports, performing arts and hands-on lessons that are invaluable, fun and healthy. See 800 students burn energy aiming to become fitter and better use their after-school hours.

Find out how you can volunteer in this public-private sector programme and influence a young person’s life for the better.

Then, it’s off to a workshop that kicked-off a national strategy. Hear from experts the new techniques being used to evaluate offenders’ rehabilitation against the backdrop of the national crime prevention strategy. Learn about input from practitioners of a top-notch Canadian programme.

Next, join us to see how you too can be inspired by the stars. Visit the University College of the Cayman Islands and hear about plans to build a home for a donated telescope,

Also learn what is planned in science and astronomy lessons for students and the whole community to maximise the use of the state-of-the-art telescope.

Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.

The weekly programme now airs on Cayman27 at 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, and 7.30 p.m. on Thursdays. All stories seen in this week’s show can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.
