Draw delivers matchups for 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf League

  • The path to the final and the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League is set for the 22 participating clubs
  • Opening matches to be played first week of August; competition will conclude with a second leg final in mid-December

Miami, FL (Wednesday, June 16, 2021) – Concacaf today conducted the official draw for the Preliminary Round and Round of 16 of the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf League (SCL). 

The event was hosted by sports anchor Raul Guzman and included the participation of Concacaf General Secretary, Philippe Moggio and former Honduras national team player, Carlos Pavon. 

The 2021 SCL will kick off with the Preliminary Round between August 3-5 (first leg matches) and August 17-19 (second leg matches). The12 clubs participating in the Preliminary Round have been divided into six matchups as follows:

Matchup #1: 11 Deportivo FC (SLV) vs Comunicaciones FC (GUA)
Matchup #2: CD Marathon (HON) vs Diriangen FC (NCA)
Matchup #3: Santos de Guapiles (CRC) vs Verdes FC (BLZ)
Matchup #4: CD Universitario (PAN) vs AS Samaritaine (MTQ)
Matchup #5: Metropolitan FA (PUR) vs FC Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa (GUA)
Matchup #6: CD FAS (SLV) vs Hamilton Forge FC (CAN)

The Preliminary Round will be followed by home and away Round of 16 matches the last two weeks of September. The 10 clubs seeded into the Round of 16 and the six Preliminary Round winners have been divided into eight pairings and will play as follows:  

Matchup #1: Alianza FC (SLV) vs Winner Preliminary Round 1
Matchup #2: Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) vs Winner Preliminary Round 5
Matchup #3: LD Alajuelense (CRC) vs CD Guastatoya (GUA)
Matchup #4: CD Olimpia (HON) vs Inter Moengo Tapoe (SUR)
Matchup #5: CA Independiente (PAN) vs Winner Preliminary Round 6
Matchup #6: CD Plaza Amador (PAN) vs Winner Preliminary Round 3
Matchup #7: FC Motagua (HON) vs Winner Preliminary Round 4
Matchup #8: Real Estelí FC (NCA) vs Winner Preliminary Round 2

For the Preliminary Round and the Round of 16, the highest ranked club in each matchup will play the first leg away and the second leg at home. For the quarterfinals, the Round of 16 winners of matchups 1, 3, 5, and 7 will play the first leg away and the second leg at home.

For the semifinals, the two best performing clubs in the earlier rounds of the competition will play the first leg away and the second leg at home. 

The return leg final will be hosted by the best performing club of the two finalists (based on wins, draws, and, if required, goal difference in the earlier rounds of the competition).
