Dominican airline plans to increase its Caribbean routes

From Presna Latina

Santo Domingo, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican airline Air Century is planning to increase its routes in the Caribbean to destinations as Puerto Rico and start trips to Saint Martin and Cuba, according to reports in this capital today.

According to media outlets, Air century President Omar Chahin Lama said that the necessary investment for the new projects would become a reality next year, with the buy of two 50-seat jets.

He also said that for late 2018, they had planned to buy an 80-seat aircraft to operate flights to Miami, the United States.

‘We are not very clear yet about if we would operate at the airport in Miami or that in Fort Lauderdale. It is the same for us. All of this from the Doctor Joaquin Balaguer International airport, which is not known by many people,’ he added.

That airport is is located in Higüero, north from Greater Santo Domingo (the capital’s metropolitan area), near the town Villa Mella, 25 minutes from the center of this city.

Chahin said his company bought a cargo aircraft from the company Air Box Cargo, with a 20,000-pound cargo capacity.

He expects that for December this year, the aircraft is in service to be able to fly to the United States with agricultural produce on a daily basis.
