Dive Pirates Foundation visits Cayman Brac Resort

By Sam Helmy From Deeper Blue

To celebrate 15 years of Adaptive Diver training, the Dive Pirates Foundation took over Cayman Brac for a week.

During the week, 80 individuals descended on the resort to celebrate adaptive sport. One of the beneficiaries of the 2016 Dive Pirates Foundation is Army Specialist John Kennedy, who stated:

“When I was diagnosed with MS, I thought my life was over, I didn’t leave my house, I was so mad at this hand life had dealt me. After I met the Dive Pirates I realized I had a whole lot to see and do in this world; they saved my life.”

Kennedy was one of six previous recipients of the Dive Pirates Foundation, who was joining nine new recipients on the annual Dive Pirates trip. Participants enjoyed five days diving at the Cayman Brac resort, as well as games and contests.

According to Dive Pirates Director of Communications Theresa Cortez:

“Each one of our recipients has a unique story, but one common theme seems to resonate with all of them: they suffered a life-altering injury, and had two choices: let it consume them or persevere. We are humbled and honored to a part of that journey focusing on celebrating what we all can do, not our limitations.”
