Desperately seeking a foster home for Checkers- can you help?

unnamed-4From CARE – Cayman Animal Rescue Enthusiasts

Checkers Plea!

We are looking for a very special foster home for Checkers. Checkers is a sweet, friendly and loving three year old Collie / Retriever mix. Sadly, Checkers has Demodex. Demodex is a common infestation of the dog’s skin with tiny, cigar-shaped, eight-legged mites. Also referred to as demodectic mange, the mites reside and feed in the hair follicle and oil glands of the skin. Once eliminated, most dogs do not acquire another infestation; the dog’s immune defenses are primed to eliminate any new demodex mites. Many veterinarians believe that all dogs have small numbers of demodex mites residing in the skin and that having a few mites is normal and common. It is when immune related or nutritional or environmental stresses impact the dog that visible skin lesions from mite infestations become noticeable. It is not contagious to other dogs.

unnamed-5We really want to try and give Checkers a second chance and offer her some much needed medical attention to stop the itching and make her into the beauty that she once was. With a comfortable, safe and secure home and a soft indoor bed we know that is so very achievable and what she so deserves.  Checkers is also underweight and needs help with eating and building back her appetite.

However, we realize this is a huge task and wondered if there is anybody out there that can offer a spot for Checkers in their home and heart on a foster basis? She will need frequent bathing (Three times a week) oral medication and a little loving and attention that she just adores.

unnamed-3Checkers gets along with other dogs and people both young and old. Do you have a spot where she can relax and hopefully improve her condition so we can eventually find her, her happily ever after and the forever home she so deserves? CARE will provide all medical care along with crate, bedding, food and lots of support.

“Rescue dogs are not broken. They’ve simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human, we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write, the ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Don’t pity them.  Do something.  Foster.   Donate.  Volunteer.  Adopt.   And be proud to have their greatness at your side.” ~Author Unknown.

If you would like to help Checkers please E-mail [email protected] or call 938 2273, we would love to hear from you.

If you are unable to help foster then please consider helping financially, Checkers treatment is likely to be expensive and we need all of the help we can find in order to be able to financially sponsor her full treatment.

If you are unable to help with fostering or with a donation then please help by sharing this post in the hope that we might be able to find the perfect foster home so we can give this beauty a new start she so deserves.
