Curacao to host 2020 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield [inc. Cayman’s Scholars Int. SC]

The third edition of the competition will be the biggest ever, featuring 15 clubs from 15 Caribbean Member Associations
Miami (Friday, February 7, 2020) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) today announced that Curacao will host the 2020 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield. The competition for amateur Caribbean clubs is scheduled to take place April 3-12, 2020, at the Ergilio Hato and Dr. Antoine Maduro stadiums, in Willemstad, Curacao.

The Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield, launched in 2018, is part of an expanded Concacaf Club Competitions program and features clubs from Caribbean countries whom are working with Concacaf towards a long-term vision to professionalize the club game across the region.

“We are very pleased to bring the Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield back to Curacao, particularly after the Federation did such a good job hosting last year’s edition of this important competition,” said Concacaf General Secretary Philippe Moggio.

”This tournament plays a crucial role in the development of Caribbean clubs, and provides an excellent opportunity for teams and their players to showcase their football talent. Last year’s champions, Surinam’s SV Robinhood, delivered some outstanding performances which continued into the Scotiabank Concacaf League, in which they had an incredible run to the Round of 16. We are hoping for another great competition this year and look forward to the football starting on April 3rd.” added Moggio.

The 15 participating clubs for the 2020 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield are (in alphabetical order by Association):

  • Liberta Blackhawks SC (ATG)
  • SV Racing Club Aruba (ARU)
  • Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BRB)
  • SV Real Rincon (BOE)
  • One Love United FC (VGB)
  • Scholars International SC (CAY)
  • FC Santiago de Cuba (CUB)
  • SV Vesta (CUW)
  • South East FC (DMA)
  • Amical Club D’Etang Noir (GLP)
  • Club Franciscain (MTQ)
  • Metropolitan Football Academy (PUR)
  • Platinum FC (LCA)
  • BESCO Pastures FC (VIN)
  • SV Inter Moengo Tapoe (SUR)

For the group stage, the participating clubs will be divided into three groups of four teams and one group of three teams. After round-robin play, the first-place finishers of each group will advance to the semifinals. The semifinal winners will advance to the final, and the losing semifinalists will play the third place match.

The official draw will take place at the Concacaf Headquarters, in Miami, FL on Thursday, February 13. Fans will be able to follow all the action through Concacaf social media platforms, beginning at 11:00 am ET.

The winner of the 2020 Concacaf Caribbean Shield, provided it fulfills the Concacaf Regional Club Licensing criteria, will have the opportunity to face the fourth-place finisher of the 2020 Flow Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship in a playoff match, to determine the fourth Caribbean representative in the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League.

In the past two editions of the tournament, Club Franciscain from Martinique (2018) and SV Robinhood from Suriname (2019) were crowned champions. Both clubs continued their amazing performances by winning their respective playoff matches to secure a spot in the 2018 and 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League, respectively.
