A MUCH-LOVED pastime of thrill-seekers has come to an end after a Boeing 747 touched down for the final time at the ‘world’s scariest airport’.

Having inspired some spectacular photo opportunities over the years, KLM 747 landings at the airport dubbed ‘the world’s scariest’ have now come to an abrupt end.

Jets have flown just feet above Maho Beach for 20 years, but now only smaller planes will land at Princess Juliana International Airport.

The footage is taken capturing the roar of the engine, and crowds are seen being blasted by the jet.

#Avgeek or not the magnificent @KLM #B747 at #StMaarten #SXM airport was a sight to see. Sad it has been retired.

For years people have packed out the beach to hold onto a caged fence to feel the full force of the 747’s engines.

Now a smaller aircraft, an Airbus A330, will take the KLM 747’s place on the runway and serve the small airport.

Many took to Twitter to pay tribute following the ending the end of 747’s route.
