Lebanon’s kafala system under fire in unprecedented lawsuit

MH (not her real name), an Ethiopian domestic worker in Lebanon, has brought a landmark case against her employer and the recruitment agency involved in securing her placement on the grounds that the treatment she endured as a result of the kafala sponsorship system amounts to slavery and human trafficking. Freedom United is urgently calling on Lebanon to abolish the kafala system and better protect domestic workers from exploitation. Read more…
