Contestants heavy cake competition

The judges of the 2011 Taste of Cayman Heavy Cake Competition sample the contestants creations before choosing the winners.

The much anticipated Taste of Cayman Heavy Cake competition and exhibition returns to this year’s event and will be held during the festival on Saturday 28th of January at Camana Bay.

All Things Cayman” is a  dedicated area in the festival that will draw special attention to and truly demonstrate the Cayman Islands rich cultural heritage. Here you will find the Heavy Cake competition, which is a traditional dish that participants will compete in to see who walks away with the title of having the best heavy cake on the island.

The competition is expected to be a great display of fine local craftsmanship in the art of heavy cake baking with cultural cooking enthusiasts showcasing their work.

According to Shomari Scott of the Department of Tourism, organisers of the All Things Cayman area, the competition aims at showcasing Cayman’s culture and highlighting local crafts while also bringing our talented and skilled cake makers to the limelight.

The competition will be judged during the festival on January 28 by four judges and samples of each participants cake will also be available for onlookers to sample and decide for themselves who they think should be the winners.
