Condolences on the Passing of Captain Frank Ebanks

On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism & Transport, Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, and International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame, we thank Captain Frank Ebanks for his invaluable contribution to the tourism industry and the sport of scuba diving in the Cayman Islands. Captain Ebanks was a pioneer who helped to establish the Cayman Islands as a premier watersports and dive destination.

He was instrumental in helping previous Tourism Ministers establish policies that helped shape the promotion of local watersports providers.

Your warm spirit and many years of service will not be forgotten. Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Captain Ebanks.

ABOUT CAPTAIN FRANK EBANKS

Captain Frank Ebanks, began his business Frank’s watersports on April 7th, 1968 with a wooden Sail Boat. His diving career spans over 50 years. During the early days of the Holiday In hotel, he conducted dives for the hotel’s first guests. during those humble beginnings, he would ride from his home in Boatswains Bay to South Sound in George Town to communicate with the tourists in order to book his dives and charters; by doing this he would have a whole week of charters. Considered a veteran of the sea ha made over 100 voayges to the Keys and was a pioneer in the turtling industry and he was very instrumental in the setting up of the turtle farm through financial investment. He was an important part of the tours for the first trips that went to the North Sound when visitors arrived in Sea Planes. He was a popular dive master and well-liked by his regular customers who continue to ask for him when they visit the island.

AWARDS & RECGONITION

Life Time Achievment Award for Watersports Services to the District of West Bay. (Awarded on May 9th, 2003 Cayman’s Quincentennial year). 

Inducted into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame. (October 10th, 2014)

Tourism Pioneer Award- In recognition for extraordinary contribution towards tourism in the Cayman Islands (January 23rd, 2017  National Heroes Day)
