CITN/CAYMAN 27 to host Cayman Islands National Debates

GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS, April 10, 2017– Local TV channel Cayman 27 is set to host a series of televised National Debates in the run up to the May 2017 General Elections.

Selected political candidates will debate each other on the national issues that affect us all. As we embark on uncharted territory for the country with 19 single member constituencies, one vote for each person, we want to make sure we do our part to educate and inform the voter on issues on a macro- level. These two-hour televised debates build on the Chamber of Commerce “Be Informed Series”, which will focus specifically on electoral district issues. Cayman 27 will take the discussion further, as the National Debates will allow the candidates a platform on which to engage us on the issues of the day from their point of view.

These debates will be in the form of a “Q&A,” with topics focusing on employment, education, development, environment and crime to name a few.

Six televised live debates will take place at the Arts & Recreation Centre in Camana Bay from 7:00- 9:00pm. The dates are as follows:

Tuesday 18th April
Tuesday 25th April
Monday 1st May
Wednesday 10th May
Tuesday 16th May
Thursday 18th May

Up to five candidates will debate each night, selected across incumbents and challengers to debate the issues on a national level. Tammi Sulliman, who covered the last two General Elections as a journalist with Cayman 27, will moderate the debates. She will be accompanied by political analysts Ben Meade and Johann Moxam, who will offer post-debate commentary.

The public is welcome to attend the National Debates, which will also be carried live on Cayman 27 and streamed live through www.cayman27.ky.
