Circle of Love Prayer Brunch

More than 150 seniors attended the Circle of Love Prayer Brunch on Saturday, 8 October 2016 as part of local Older Persons’ Month events.
Organised by Circle of Love Women’s Ministry in partnership with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the well-attended brunch was held in the Triple C School Hall between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Attendees from across Grand Cayman enjoyed a packed programme including musical entertainment, spot prizes for correctly answering general knowledge questions and a

generous buffet of soup, mains and dessert.
The brunch formally began with opening remarks and a prayer by Mistress of Ceremonies Mrs. Julie Hunter. The founder of the Circle of Love Women’s Ministry implored members of society to listen and learn from the elderly who had “battled the storms of life…[and] given so much to us.”
She also called for a minute’s silence to remember those who had passed since the previous year.
The Minister of Community Affairs, Youth and Sports, Hon. Osbourne Bodden, gave an impassioned speech outlining the outreach work of the Circle of Love Ministry, its partnership with his Ministry and invited the audience to enjoy the prayer brunch that was being held in their honour.
DCFS’s Deputy Director of Clinical Services, Ms. Paulinda Mendoza-Williams, spoke about the need to eradicate ageism in society. She also reflected on the Government’s shepherding of the draft Older Persons’ Policy, which is aimed at addressing many issues

faced by older persons in our communities.
Highlights of the entertainment segments of the annual event included a rendition of “Send Me the Pillow that you Dream Of” by an East End resident and a monologue and inspirational singing by Mr. Quincy Brown.
Brunch followed and afterwards, attendees listened to songs and poems performed by local residents. Although largely a sit-down event, those who had the energy and inclination got up and danced to live music provided by Mr. Dennom Bodden.
