Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital responds to Ebola Outbreak

officeThe Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital (CTMH) is taking extra precautionary measures with the Ebola outbreak by educating its staff with the latest information on the outbreak, guidelines to protect health care professionals and the public and future projections of the virus from international experts.

CTMH will participate in a live audio webcast on October 22, 2014, by the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) featuring six industry experts including Christopher Dye, D.Phil., Director of Strategy in the Office of the Director General at the World Health Organization, Geneva; Jeffrey M. Drazen, M.D., editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine and Armand Sprecher, M.D., a Public Health Specialist at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Belgium to name a few.

The Ebola virus has killed thousands of people in West Africa and has recently surfaced in the United States, causing the death of one man in Texas and infecting a nurse who cared for him as well as threatening the lives of many others leaving the world in a state of panic.

“The most recent scare has been the health care worker who was being monitored for signs of Ebola aboard a cruise ship which caused great public concern about Ebola which had previously seemed a remote threat,” said, Dr. Steve Tomlinson, Founder of CTMH. “We realize that we are not immune because of our location and we want to be prepared in the case of an outbreak locally which is why we are taking the initiative to educate ourselves beforehand.”

The live webcast will discuss the origins of the outbreak and case projections, the virology of Ebola, infection control and protection, as well as engaging the community.
