NATCHEZ -Former Natchez High football standout Trevon Chatman is knocking on the door of his dream -to play football at the highest level.

But for Chatman, that wasn’t always the case, because he got a later start than most kids do on the field.

‘When I was brought up, I didn’t start playing until the 11th grade,” he said. “Really, it was my senior year when I was determined and decided to just go all the way:

After taking the junior college route out of high school, Chatman transferred to Campbellsville University in Kentucky where he would shine.

This past season, Chatman set school single season records with 73 catches, 1,040 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is just the second receiver in Campbellsville history to top the 1.000-yard mark in a season.

“It was a great year for me,” Chatman said. “I wanted to have over 1,000 yards receiving, and I did, and I wanted to have over 70 catches, and I did.”

Now, Chatman’s hard work will be rewarded, as he will participate in postseason all star games.

“It was the best Chatman said of teaming he would be able to continue playing. “I was hoping I would be picked for all-star games. Coach called me and said he got an email, and that made my day:

Chatman will first take his skills overseas to participate in the first Cayman Kickoff Classic International Scout Bowl scheduled for Saturday on Grand Cayman Island.

He will then quickly tum around and play in the 21st Annual USA Football Bowl in Jackson, going from the 16th to the 20th.

Chatman said he wants to accomplish as much as he can in the games, but is trying to keep things in focus.

“I just want to be me and not try to do too much, because when I do, stuff doesn’t always go right,” he said. “I just want to be me.”

Chatman said that after the games, he is hoping to receive an invite to an NFL pre camp.

“That would mean a lot,” Chatman said. “It would be my dream.”
