Charity drive supports a Cayman Islands cancer foundation

CHARITY DRIVE SUPPORTS CANCER FOUNDATIONOn Saturday, 23 April, the Cayman community drove, clicked and plunged their way into supporting The Breast Cancer Foundation during Island Heritage’s 5th Annual CharityDrive. CharityDrive is like no other sponsorship event on the Island where the amount of funding donated to the chosen charity depends on the level of support by the community in a fun, innovative way.
During this year’s CharityDrive, Island Heritage donated $1, up to $25,000, for every car that drove past the Island Heritage roundabout, for every ‘Support’ click on the Company’s Facebook page, for every Instagram like and for every twitter mention of @charitydriveky.
In addition, the community could make direct donations online at charitydrive.ky and take part in the first ever CharityPlunge at Royal Palms as part of CharityDrive. During CharityPlunge, every participant walked away with a random prize and had a chance to be entered to win the grand-prize of $2,000 by sliding into a pool of redeemable prize tokens. The entry fee was just $10 and included a free first slide; additional slides were $5. All proceeds raised from CharityPlunge were also donated to The Breast Cancer Foundation.
The winner of the $2,000 grand-prize was an American visitor who had happened upon the CharityPlunge with his family on their last vacation day in Grand Cayman. “The Plunge was better than fun! It was a blast,” said Benjamin Zack. “Thank you to Island Heritage for a great event and moreover for supporting a cause that is near and dear to our family’s heart.” Mr. Zack’s father is a colon cancer survivor and his aunt is currently undergoing radiation treatment in the United States for breast cancer.
The total donated to The Breast Cancer Foundation after the events was $25,843. “The Directors of the Breast Cancer Foundation were humbled and thrilled to have been chosen by Island Heritage as the recipient of their annual Charity Drive. We are so grateful to them,” said Janette Fitzgerald of The Breast Cancer Foundation. “These funds will go directly to our Wellness Program, which aims to help breast cancer patients here in Cayman to get through the debilitating and brutal treatments that they have to endure to beat this horrible disease. We currently have 82 persons who are registered with our Wellness Program.”
