Cayman Youth Football Leagues – Appleby Under 18 high school football begins this week

The Appleby Under 18 high school football leagues begin this week.

The Cayman Youth Football Leagues (CYFL) is pleased to announce the kick-off of the 2020 Appleby Under 18 girls’ and boys’ high school football leagues this week.

In October, the CYFL welcomed Appleby as the new sponsors of the Under 18 high school football leagues. The Under 18 age-group was added to the list of school football leagues in 2019 with Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) sponsoring the inaugural season. Appleby joins CUC, Dart and Progressive Distributors as sponsors of the flourishing local primary and high school football leagues.

Defending 2019 Under 18 boys’ champions Cayman Prep & High School and girls’ champions Cayman International School, look to hold on to their titles as they enter into the second season of under 18 football. As defending champions, both schools have their work cut-out for them this year as the other high schools seek to stamp their authority on the leagues, de-throne the current champions and add the Appleby Cup to their respective trophy cabinets.

It will certainly be an exciting season for all involved.

High schools participating in the 2020 Appleby Under 18 high school leagues this year include Clifton Hunter High School, John Gray High School, St. Ignatius Catholic High School, Triple C, Cayman Prep & High School, Cayman International School and Cayman Academy.

Games are scheduled for the Annex Field, CIFA Field, Truman Bodden Sports Complex, Camana Bay Sports Complex, Clifton Hunter High School and the St. Ignatius Catholic School.

Under 18 girls’ games are played on Wednesdays and boys’ games are scheduled for Thursdays.

The CYFL was formed to organise, administer and coordinate school football leagues in the Cayman Islands. CUC began sponsoring the primary school football leagues in 2005 and have invested heavily in ensuring all schools have the opportunity to participate. In 2016, a plan to include high school football was initiated and in September 2017, with Dart as sole sponsors, the Dart Under 13 girls and boys high school football leagues were launched.
