UPDATE: Man Charged with Aggravated Burglary and Other Offences in Relation to Incidents from June 2017

A man, age 42 of George Town, has been arrested and formally charged with Attempted Burglary, Possession of an Imitation Firearm with Intent to Commit an Offence, Damage to Property, Theft, Aggravated Burglary, and Robbery.

The charges are in relation to a series of incidents on 17 June, 2017, including an aggravated burglary which occurred in Patrick’s Island in Prospect; the attempted burglary of a premises off West Bay Road; and the theft of a motor vehicle from the parking lot of the Marriott Beach Resort on West Bay Road.

He appears in summary court this morning, 29 November.

Two men, aged 17 and 23 of George Town, have been charged with Theft, Attempted Burglary, Damage to Property, two counts of Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm with Intent to Commit an Offence, Aggravated Burglary, and Robbery.

The charges stem from incidents on 17 June, 2017: the Aggravated Burglary which occurred in Patrick’s Island in Prospect (see below); the Attempted Burglary of a premises off West Bay Road; and the theft of a motor vehicle from the parking lot of the Marriott Beach Resort on West Bay Road.

The men appeared in summary court this morning, 5 March.

Update: Further arrests made in the Aggravated Burglary Incident

Following the arrest of the 22-year-old male shortly after the incident, the RCIPS can now confirm that two other arrests have been made in connection with the Aggravated Burglary which occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday 17th.

As investigations continued throughout the weekend police have arrested a total of three persons in relation to the incident. On Saturday morning police also arrested a juvenile of George Town following an motor vehicle accident on School Road. During a search of the vehicle he was driving certain items were found that led to his arrest. Police has now recovered two vehicles in connection with this investigation; one of them being a Honda Civic which was reported stolen from the Marriott Hotel, West Bay road a few hours earlier to the Aggravated Burglary occurring.

The third is a 39-year-old male of George Town who was arrested this morning shortly after 1:00a.m. All three males remain in police custody as investigations continue.

The investigations are been led by Detective Inspector Joseph and anyone who has information in relation to this incident should contact him at the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

Subject: Aggravated Burglary

For immediate release

Today, Saturday 17th of June 2017, shortly after 4:30a.m. 911 received a call from a resident of Patrick’s Island that three males, two of which were armed with firearms, and the other with a hammer; had entered their residence and bound them up with duct tape.

The intruders demanded cash and valuables and threatened the victims with bodily harm. The male resident was assaulted during the incident.

A quantity of cash, jewelry and other valuables were stolen.

After the intruders left, one of the victims were able to free themselves and contacted 911. Armed officers responded to the scene immediately.

The on-duty Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) was also dispatched.

The victims, though traumatized did not require immediate medical attention.

Officers were able to develop positive lines of inquiries that led to the recovery of items believed to have come from the victims’ residence at another George Town location.

Also, a George Town male, age 22-years-old was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of aiding and abetting the commission of a crime and is in police custody.

One of the males who entered the Patrick Island residence is described as 5 ft. 9 -10 inches tall, slim built and the other two are described as 5’10”-11” tall and also slim built.

The investigations are been led by Detective Inspector Joseph Wright and the investigative team resourced by detectives of the Criminal Investigations Department and other key personnel.
