Cayman: Traffic Advisory: Road Closure Following Collision on Shamrock Road

From RCIPS

At around 2:10AM today, 2 July, an off-duty police officer came across a single motor vehicle collision on Shamrock Road in the vicinity of Marina Drive, Prospect.

The vehicle was travelling westbound on Shamrock Road when it collided with a light pole resulting in severe damage to both the vehicle and the pole. The driver was pulled from the car, after which he fled the scene and was shortly apprehended at a residence on Mangrove Avenue. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and was transported to hospital. The driver, a man age 24, residing in George Town, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Motorists are advised that the section of Shamrock Road between Marina Drive and Mangrove Avenue is currently closed, and will remain closed for approximately four hours this morning. This closure is necessary to allow CUC to repair the light pole that was damaged.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the George Town Police Station at 649-4222.
