Cayman Summer arts camp 2014 from the CNCF

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The summer arts camp programme is an annual summer activity of the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF), engaging youth 6* – 16 years of age in the visual, traditional and performing arts, in addition to offering participants Caymanian cultural activities to take part in. The camp’s aims are to: stimulate creativity and offer an outlet for creative expression; provide quality arts instruction to students regardless of experience level; allow students opportunities to work in a group setting; foster a deeper interest in the community.

*Children 6 years of age are accepted if an older sibling is enrolled in the camp.

PROGRAMME ELEMENTS

Dates:             Monday, August 11th to Friday, August 15th (M-F).

Hours:             9am – 3pm. Early drop off at 8am.

Cost:               $125 per child for 5 days.

This year’s camp will highlight traditional games and entertainments with a focus on creating handmade toys/games as well as developing performing arts skills such as storytelling and dancing.

CLASSES & ACTIVITIES

Storytelling & Folk Songs

Dance (May Pole)

Traditional arts/craft (thatch plaiting, making kites & gigs; games such as marbles, jacks, hopscotch)

Day trips to the National Gallery, National Museum and Mind’s Eye (Miss Lassie’s).

On the last day of camp, participants will present a ‘work show’ for parents and guests to enjoy some of what was taught in the camp. Refreshments with a local theme will be served.

REFRESHMENTS

One lunch break of 55 minutes is scheduled. Juices, water, sandwiches, fruit, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, porridge and other light foods included in camp fee. On special days patties, corn bread and other sponsored items will be provided also. Campers may bring their own items as well.

STAFFING

6 Tutors, 6 – 8 Assistants/Aides.

One individual is the designated Camp Manager.

2 – 3 persons will be in charge of preparing food daily.

T-SHIRTS

Participants receive one T-shirt each. Campers and camp staff must wear the shirt on the field trips. This year’s shirt will highlight traditional games and entertainments.

Payment: CNCF accepts all major credit/debit cards, cheques and cash. Cheques should be made out to CNCF and can be mailed to P.O. Box 30201, KY1-1201 or dropped to the CNCF office during office hours. Please note that CNCF will not accept post-dated cheques. If you are registering three or more of your children for the summer arts camp, please get in touch with CNCF by phone or via email as we do provide a 10% discount.
