Cayman Police Investigate Serious Motor Vehicle Collision Involving a Pedestrian – New Release

Shortly before 8:15 PM on Wednesday, 22 January, officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hirst Road involving a pedestrian. It was reported that the vehicles involved, a Honda Civic and a Ford Ranger, were travelling in opposite directions on Hirst Road when they collided near the Rex Crighton Boulevard intersection, and the Ford then collided with the pedestrian. The occupants of the Honda fled the location prior to the arrival of the police.

EMS attended the location and rendered assistance to the pedestrian, who was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. She has since been discharged.

Officers spoke to the driver of the Ford who was breath tested with a positive result. The man, age 41 of George Town, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Following inquiries officers located and arrested the driver of the Honda, a juvenile male, for several traffic offenses.

Both persons have since been bailed as investigations continue.

This incident is under investigation by the Traffic & Roads Policing Management Unit, and anyone who may have witnessed this incident or seen either of the vehicles prior to the collision, is asked to contact the Unit at 649-6254.

Police were at the scene yesterday of a two vehicle collision that resulted in a pedestrian being seriously injured. The incident took place at the junction of Rex Crighton Blvd and Hirst Rd in Bodden Town just after 9PM tyesterday, Wednesday, 22nd January. 

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by ambulance and is currently being treated for serious injuries, they are believed to now be in stable condition. 

The occupants of one of the vehicles appears to have fled the scene of the collision. One person from the vehicle has since been located and arrested in relation to this incident. Additionally the driver of the second vehicle involved was also arrested in relation to this incident. 

Road traffic investigators are seeking the assistance of anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward and provide information.
