Cayman: Police investigate fatal collision on Shamrock Road

Update (6 December):

Shortly before 10:00PM yesterday, Sunday, 5 December, police, fire officers, and EMS responded to a report of a serious two-vehicle collision on Shamrock Road in the vicinity of the Red Bay Primary School, involving a silver Honda Inspire and a black Honda StepWGN. As a result of the collision, the StepWGN overturned and the Inspire collided with a concrete sign post. Two occupants were trapped in the StepWGN and were subsequently extricated by fire officers. They were transported to hospital by ambulance, along with a third occupant of the StepWGN, and the two occupants of the Inspire. The passenger of the Honda Inspire was subsequently pronounced dead.

The other four passengers remain in hospital in stable condition.

A portion of Shamrock Road was closed overnight as traffic officers conducted investigations. The road has now been reopened to traffic. The matter remains under investigation by the Traffic & Roads Policing Unit. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the TRPU at 649-6254 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

The deceased in the collision is 29-year-old Alden Emelo Ohero Irons, a Jamaican National residing in the Cayman Islands.

The RCIPS expresses condolences to the family of the deceased.


Initial Release (5 December):

Police and emergency services are currently on the scene of a serious collision on Shamrock Road, in the vicinity of the Red Bay Primary School (RBPS). Shamrock Road is current closed between just past the Esso Service Station east of Selkirk Drive, and RBPS.
