Cayman: Pending Garbage Collection to be completed by Sunday

Grand Cayman, 24 September 2022 – The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is ensuring members of the public that the garbage collection scheduled for this week will be completed by tomorrow, as preparations continue for the severe weather forecasted for the next 36 hours.

Residents are asked to be patient while the DEH team completes the collection of garbage and recyclables as the team stays committed to resume its regular services as soon as it is permitted.

Residents are also reminded that there will not be a garbage collection on Monday 26 September, 2022. The temporary suspension of this service will affect the ordinary schedule for next week and may cause a delay by an estimated one day.

As part of the Hurricane Preparedness Plan for the current hurricane season, temporary debris sites have been identified by the Initial Clearance and Debris Management (ICDM) Committee chaired by the DEH. The location of these temporary sites will be announced as it becomes necessary. Residents are asked to wait to dispose of any materials until a day or two after the “all clear” is given by the authorities. This will help reduce congestion and waiting times at the landfills and the temporary sites.
