Chatterbox is glad to announce that they are now able to provide Dietitian Services!

Kay-Lee Nowers, is a South African born Dietitian, who has a special interest in maternal and child nutrition, oncology, and chronic disease of lifestyle. Throughout her career, she has helped clients manage their diabetes, hypertension and gastrointestinal disorders. She has worked with a variety of paediatric patients, who have an issue with picky eating, food allergies or childhood obesity.  

Patients like to know they are receiving sound advice from somebody that has the experience and is an expert in all nutritional aspects. Kay-Lee’s main focus during her consultations is to building relationships with her clients.

She strives to help individuals achieve their long-term nutrition goals by prescribing a diet that is uniquely suitable for each situation. She provides a comprehensive nutritional prescription plan, meal plans and recipes to all of her clients. During a consultation, Kay-Lee uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Behaviour Change Modification (BCM) and Responsive feeding methodologies to help provide holistic care to her patients.

We also provide various specialised services such as:

1) The Feeding Clinic, where patients can receive OT, SLT and Dietitian screenings and assessments to ensure your child is growing adequately for their age and diagnosis.

2) A weekly nutrition-based workshop session that focuses on topics such as infant, child and maternal feeding, eating disorders, responsive feeding, baby lead weaning etc. 

3) Nutritional Intervention Programs:

  • Oncological Nutrition Support Program:

Consists of education with the patient and family members on how to maximize the nutritional status of the patient- diagnosed with any type of cancer. Whether they are newly diagnosed, receiving chemotherapy, finished treatment or in remission. During these different phases of treatment or remission, a patient needs to maximize their immune system and reduce treatment side effects. Patients will receive ongoing nutritional assessments and support, which ensures they are meeting their nutritional requirements. They will also receive an individualized meal plan and recipes to ensure the family has the resources, to make this process a little bit easier. 

  • The Nutritious Mommy Program- Pre-and post-natal healthy nutrition program for mommy and baby: 

A 6-week program aimed at helping pre and post-natal mothers learn exactly how to feed themselves and their baby. This program teaches mothers: the fundamentals of prenatal nutrition and supplementation, how to introduce solids to infants, what are allergens and food intolerances, post-pregnancy weight loss and more.

  • The Healthy Weigh nutrition program: 

Consists of a 12-week nutritional weight loss program aimed at clients who want to lose a substantial amount of excess weight, decrease their sugar levels, improve their cholesterol levels and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The client will first receive an extensive nutritional assessment and analysis report. Then they will be educated and counselled about all nutritional aspects related to dietary and lifestyle changes. The first two weeks consist of a low calorie, higher protein diet. The client will slowly increase caloric intake throughout the preceding weeks.

This program focuses on holistic nutrition which incorporates healthy meal choices, healthy cooking methods, sustainable dietary adaptions as well as a focus on physical activity. This program is a fantastic interactive and fun way for patients to take control of their weight loss journey. 

  • The Picky Eating Program: 

It is an 8-week program that incorporates supporting healthy eating practices by increases the number of foods a child eats. It entails breaking down food acceptance into small steps that allow a child to gradually tolerate different foods. This program promotes stress-free meal times and the use of responsive feeding practices. 

  • Diabetes Nutrition Management Program:

It is aimed at Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes patients who are struggling to maintain their blood sugar levels. This program is specifically designed to allow patients living with diabetes to eat freely without worrying about their blood sugar skyrocketing. This program includes an individualized nutritional assessment, body weight analysis, weekly meal plans, grocery lists, delicious recipes, diabetes support and education for the whole family.
