Cayman: MRCU Mobilises Ground Fogging as Mosquitoes Rise

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands (19 April 2025) – The Mosquito Research and Control Unit (MRCU) is sending out five fogging trucks this evening (19 April) to help manage increasing mosquito numbers across Grand Cayman.

As we predicted in our earlier advisory<https://www.gov.ky/news/press-release-details/mrcu-issues-mosquito-advisory-ahead-of-easter-weekend>, mosquito populations are starting to rise. We know this from the data we collect from our mosquito traps around the island, as well as larvae found within swamps and dykes.

Stronger winds have helped to reduce mosquito biting, but it also stops us from being able to treat large areas by air. Because of this, we are now relying on ground fogging. Our goal is to reduce the mosquito population as much as possible before the winds calm down.

We want to reassure everyone that MRCU teams are working hard to keep mosquito numbers as low as possible for your comfort.

Tonight’s Fogging Areas
Ground fogging operations begin at 6:59 p.m., with trucks scheduled to treat the following areas:

  *   Esterley Tibbetts Highway, Dog City dykes, Camana Bay dykes, and nearby roads between CIS School and the landfill, finishing in Polder
  *   Will T Drive, Northward, Discover Drive, Agriculture Road (all turns), and Savannah Meadows (Beach Bay not included)
  *   Bodden Town Primary School, Lookout Gardens, Belford Estates, Moon Bay, and up to the Midland Acres entrance
  *   Cayman Kai, Ottos Drive, Hutland, and Old Man Bay
  *   Barkers dykes, Powery Road, Kabbo, Fire Station area, all turnings including Boggy Sand Road, Willie Farrington Drive, and into Dart Nursery and Batabano Road (all turns)

No aerial spraying will be conducted this evening due to high winds.
