 Cayman: Khan elected new CIIPA President

KPMG Cayman Islands Partner Rennie Khan was elected President on Monday, 7 March as the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants held its Annual General Meeting at the George Town Yacht Club. 

Khan previously served as CIIPA’s Vice-President and takes over for outgoing President Craig Smith, who will remain on the CIIPA Council as well as its Management Committee and Membership and Licensing Committee as past President. 

“CIIPA has evolved and continues to adapt to its environmental conditions,” said Khan, pointing to a 33-percent growth in membership and 46-percent growth in licensed practitioners over the past five years. “I am proud to be a part of this team and look forward to the year ahead as we have created a blueprint which will allow us to continue on our successful path.”

EY Associate Partner Rosa Nolan was elected Vice-President at the meeting, becoming the second woman to hold the VP position. 

“I’m looking forward to working with the incoming President and the Council on achieving CIIPA’s strategic objectives over the coming year,” Nolan said. 

James George continues to serve as Secretary while Francois Lamontagne, Serge Berube, Joel Dodson, Carolyn du Toit, Jeff Short, Ben Leung, Mike Mannisto, Laurie Mernett, Peter Small, Dara Keogh and Yuri Williams join Khan, Nolan, Smith and George on the Council. 

CIIPA Chief Executive Officer Sheree Ebanks offered a recap of the Institute’s activities over the prior year, which included strengthening relationships with local and international stakeholders to carry out Anti-Money Laundering, Combatting the Financing of Terrorism and Proliferation Financing supervision and policy work. 

CIIPA’s Lisa Bowyer was appointed head of the Accountants Working Group for the National Risk Assessment, which will be released later this month. 

CIIPA has also continued to offer training, quality assurance and practical guidance to members aimed at ensuring those in the local accountancy industry adhere to the best global practices and standards. 

Looking ahead, CIIPA has a busy schedule in 2022. That includes implementation of a joint examination scheme with the ACCA, meaning CIIPA will be able to provide globally accepted qualifications for local students.
