Cayman Islands ‘Vintage’ Marathon Man

image1Cayman Islands ‘Vintage’ Marathon Man completes Dublin Marathon

Cayman Islands veteran runner Derek Haines completed the 35th SSE Airtricity Marathon today (Mon 27) in a time of 4hrs 15 minutes.

With a temperature of about 64 deg F taking into account the wind chill factor, gale force winds for first two hours and Derek hampered by a swollen ankle, his time is a remarkable achievement. He actually finished in ninth place in his age group. Derek is a vintage 66 years of age.

This now leaves our marathon man just one race to go as he has now completed 5 out of his goal of completing six marathons in his bid to raise $1M for a new building in Camana Bay for Cayman HospiceCare..

Derek has now raised over $750,000 in cash and donations with another $300,000 donations in material and labour on the building so far.

Well done Derek and many, many congratulations.

The last marathon takes place on home turf. The Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon Sunday 7th December 2014 at 5:00am.
