Cayman Islands: UCCI offers Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management

The University College of the Cayman Islands announces its Master’s degree in Human Resource Management (MHRM), a graduate programme that enhances the skills of current and aspiring HR professionals.

It is designed through collaboration with the Cayman Islands Society of Human Resource Professionals (CISHRP) and is tailored to suit those working in the Cayman Islands market and also to meet the requirements of international workplaces.

The programme begins on October 12 with the first of three two-day seminars – Fundamentals of Human Resource Management (October 12 & 13, 2018); Communicating Effectively as an HR Manager (November 16 & 17, 2018); and Finance and Accounting for Non-Financial Managers (December 7 & 8, 2018). These are also offered as “stand-alones” to those persons who do not wish to do the degree but would like to be certified in these areas. Persons with interest in the HR field or who might need professional development in these areas are asked to sign on to do one or all of these seminars.

The MHRM is a 36-credit programme that will last for 18 months. It comprises of three modules and module one has three parts:

1.Essentials of HR Management (three seminars offered as a “stand-alone” for professional development)
2.US Accredited SHRM training (offered as a “stand-alone” in preparation for international certification)
3.Research Methods in Business & Management

Module two looks at Strategies in Human Resource Management in an international as well as a Cayman-focused context. Students will also do courses from the Executive Certificate in Global Leadership (ECGL) programme that is offered in partnership with the Florida International University (FIU) and taught by FIU professors.

Module three is an independent research study where students apply their HR knowledge to real world experience and issues. The module is flexible with respect to the students’ professional obligations. Each student works with a UCCI faculty member who has expertise in the area of study.

For admission into the programme, applicants MUST have at least 2 years’ HR experience and should have a Bachelor’s degree. Applicants who do not hold a Bachelor’s degree but who have significant experience in an HR role may be given consideration for entry into the programme. All applications will be reviewed by a committee for selection. The cost of the programme is $14,500, inclusive of materials (except one textbook) and all fees. Stand-alones are priced separately with discounts offered when participants sign up for multiple seminars.
