Cayman Islands police officer assaulted during drug operation in West Bay, 8 February

From RCIPS Fri Feb 9 2018

Yesterday, 8 February, RCIPS officers, along with officers from HM Customs and the Department of Agriculture, conducted a drug operation in the Boatswain Bay area of West Bay. Several ganja plants were recovered but no arrests were made.

During the course of the operation, stones were thrown at the officers by unknown persons nearby, causing minor damage to a service vehicle. An RCIPS officer was also struck twice in the head and face, and was later taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital. He was treated and subsequently released.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

“Such attacks against officers in the lawful execution of their duties threaten the safety of everyone,” said Deputy Commissioner Kurt Walton, “as police officers our aim is to maintain public safety, and when we are attacked that safety comes under threat.”
