On 18 November 2015 Mitzi’s Fine Jewelry on West Bay Road was robbed by an armed man, and the store lost a significant amount of merchandise. In the six months since the robbery occurred no pieces have been recovered. We would like to appeal to the community to assist us in locating the jewelry that was taken, and help us lessen the devastating impact of this crime on a local business that has been in the community for years.

Mitzi Callan, the owner of Mitzi’s Fine Jewelry, has been operating her business since 1976 in Grand Cayman. She designs and makes much of the jewelry she sells. The pieces that were stolen in the robbery are bold and distinctive; some are of Mitzi’s own design and while others are of the brand Carrera y Carrera. (The Carrera y Carrera pieces have a CyC makers’ mark.) Altogether the stolen jewelry is valued at over half a million dollars. Pictures of many of the stolen pieces are attached.

Detectives believe that someone has seen this jewelry in past months or knows its whereabouts. He or she may have information about who stored it or may have been offered it for sale. Or, they may have seen someone wearing this jewelry, quite possibly in unexpected circumstances for such high-value items. Detectives also emphasize that they welcome anonymous tips about this matter at 649-7710.

Mitzi is a local business woman and the jewelry store is her livelihood.

“Since I made many of these pieces myself, the loss of this jewelry is just as difficult for me personally as it is financially,” says Ms. Callan, “as someone who has been in the community for so long it would be such a sign of support for me, and for local businesses in general, if people would come forward and share what they know about this crime with the police.”

Ms. Callan has offered an award through Crime Stoppers for information that leads to the recovery of the stolen jewelry or the conviction of those responsible for the robbery.

In January two people, a man and a woman, were arrested in connection with the robbery, but have not been charged. They remain on Police Bail while the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the stolen jewelry, or information regarding the robbery, should contact the Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force at 649-7710 or [email protected]. Anonymous tips can be provided via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online at the link: https://www.tipsubmit.com/WebTips.aspx?AgencyID=681.
