kyred-300x150The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry, a division of the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands, has been listed on the ‘White List’ in the 2015 Annual Report Paris MOU on Port State Control (PSC) for the eleventh consecutive year.

The Paris MoU on PSC is an administrative agreement between twenty-seven Maritime Authorities.  It deals mainly with enforcement of safety of life at sea, prevention of pollution by ships, and living and working conditions on board ships.

Each Maritime Administration is rated on the performance of the ships flying its flag during Port State Control inspections.  Those Maritime Administrations with the highest inspection-to-detention ratios are assigned the highest, or ‘White List’ category.

The Cayman Islands is also ‘White Listed’ and also rated as ‘Low Risk’ in all major international ports as per the Port State Control Memoranda of Understanding (including the Paris and Tokyo MOU), demonstrating an excellent ship safety and pollution prevention record. The Cayman Islands also qualifies under the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Qualship 21 Programme, meaning considerably less Port State Control inspections by the USCG on Cayman flagged vessels.  The Cayman Islands is the leading member of the Red Ensign Group in terms of the number of ships enrolled in the Qualship 21 Programme.

Mr. A. Joel Walton, CEO of Cayman Registry stated “I would like to congratulate the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry’s staff, management and the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands board members on their continued commitment and dedication in maintaining an outstanding safety and quality record for the Cayman flag.”
