Cayman Islands named Destination of the Year by Caribbean Journal

caymanGrand Cayman, Cayman Islands (11 December 2014) The Cayman Islands has been named the ‘Destination of the Year’ by The Caribbean Journal, in their inaugural Caribbean Travel Awards 2014.

According to the website, the designation was earned based on a variety of factors such as “the efforts of its tourism sector” and “simply good marketing work”.

“Earning this type of recognition is positive reinforcement for all the persons locally and abroad who have steadfastly committed to making our tourism sector thrive by promoting our country as a leading Caribbean vacation destination,” shared Deputy Premier and Minister of Tourism, Hon Moses Kirkconnell. “It is an honour to be acknowledged for the tireless efforts we have put forward as a country to make the Cayman Islands stand out in the region and I am extremely proud of all those who understand that tourism matters.”

Echoing the sentiment of the Hon Minister, Director of the Department of Tourism Mrs. Rosa Harris said: “In the spirit of the old adage ‘it takes a village’, there are many people on the Cayman Islands team who have worked diligently to earn this recognition for the country. From the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism’s global team and affiliated agencies to the private sector partners who helped to create Caymankind experiences for our visitors, this award is another reminder that our work is noticed, appreciated and crucial in effecting visitation.”

The Cayman Islands is a laid-back place, with kind people and almost impossibly beautiful beaches. It’s remained somewhat under the radar, however; that’s starting to change, though, and thanks to the efforts of its tourism sector the island is seeing new heights, including one of the highest rates of arrival growth in the Caribbean. That’s come without any notable new hotel openings or airlift — simply good marketing work. It’s exciting to see what will happen next.
